I just have to start out this post by saying how excited I am that it is FINALLY December! This truly is the most wonderful time of the year for me, and I’ll admit that I’m one of those kids at heart that starts listening to Christmas music before Thanksgiving.
On another note, today’s blog post is for fellow photographs and entrepreneurs. I’m sharing FOUR of my favorite tools for business. Some of these are geared toward photographers, but others can be used by small business owners in general!
Planoly has changed my photography life. No lie! I discovered Planoly a few months ago, and I have used it nonstop ever since. I love to use Instagram as a marketing tool, but sometimes I have difficulty choosing which photo to post that day and what to use for the caption. With Planoly, I can schedule Instagram posts months ahead of time! At the beginning of each month, I schedule about twenty photos and captions for that month, leaving a few days on the calendar empty so that I can use newer photos on those days. I’m able to do an entire month’s worth of work in less than an hour! Each day, I get a notification from Planoly that it is time to post that scheduled photo, and after only one click, my Instagram post is live! The best part? It’s FREE!
Here is an example of what my Planoly account looks like. On the right, you can see my Instagram calendar, and on the left is what my Instagram feed will look like when those photos are posted! For those of you that like to heavily curate your Instagram feed, this is a great tool.
I’ve written an entire blog post on Pixieset, and you can find it HERE! Pixieset is a more modern way of getting galleries to my clients. While some still prefer receiving their photos on discs, others like the convenience and fun of Pixieset! The day that I finish a photo session, I will send my client’s Pixieset gallery to them via email, along with a PDF of instructions on how to take advantage of everything that Pixieset has to offer. You can download the photos to your computer, tablet, or smart phone, and they will arrive a lot sooner than getting discs in the mail! 😉
I obviously love WordPress, because that is the website that my blog is on! WordPress is SO user-friendly, and I am able to get my website looking exactly how I want without having to do any coding! While I am fairly savvy when it comes to electronics, I have absolutely no idea how to code. WordPress offers so many options to make your website uniquely you!
4. Colorvale Planner + Client Organizer
My fourth favorite tool is actually a two-parter. I purchased my Colorvale Photographer’s Planner and Client Workflow + Photo Session Organizer several months ago, and I literally use them every single day.
The Colorvale planner is designed specifically for photographers. Not only does it have a calendar for me to keep track of my sessions that I have booked, but it also has a section for tracking my social media stats, plan blog posts, write to-do lists, keep track of inquiries, and document my earnings for the month. It has completely changed how I run Jayna Watkins Photography, and helps keep me more organized than I have ever been before!
My photo session organizer is how I keep track of each and every session that I book. It has two pages for each session, and it is where I keep my client’s information (like names, addresses, phone numbers, and email addresses), session information (date, time, location), special information for that session (certain props to bring, family pairings, etc.), and a way to track where I am at in the editing and delivery process. It is sort of my little black book for clients!
